Julep's Year End Sale Haul

Its a snow day and I'm just sitting home watching 80's movies(Breakfast Club ftw!) and I thought to myself "Hey, perfect opportunity to swatch the polishes I got from Julep's year end sale!"

I had just put my paycheck into the bank, and naturally I began scouring the internet for nail polish. Because what else am I going to do with my hard earned money??

I ended up on Julep, where I discovered their year end sale, pretty good deals that I wasn't about to pass up!

Purchases from left to right:
O Canada, Meryl,
Winter Collection 2012 which included Hilary, Kathleen, O Canada, Sharon, and Melissa,
Julep Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub,
Portia and Lucy

This stuff is MAGICAL. I tried it out like immediately after receiving the package. I usually use a scrub before shaving my legs. It gets rid of the dead skin which allows you to get a better, closer shave. It smells sooooooo good and leaves your legs smooth and yummy smelling. What I really like about this is that its not too grainy. More than once I have gotten a body scrub that was too grainy and it left my skin feeling itchy. This is normally like $18 and I believe I got it for like $8.

This is Kathleen. Its a shimmery gold/champagne color with honey colored flecks. Its gorgeoussss! I wish I had this before New Years, this would have been a perfect color for a New Years mani.

Here is Hilary over Kathleen. Hilary is mix of brown/copper micro glitter in a clear base. I like how it looks layered over the gold, not totally sure where else I would use this polish tho..

This is Lucy. It is a dark burgundy creme polish. I am fully aware at how messy it looks. I don't know why it was such a pain in the ass to apply. It was streaky and gross and gah I dunno. I feel like if I will need to try this polish again, because it definitely has potential haha

This is Meryl, an absolutely gorgeous grey creme polish. This is actually on my sisters nails because me(being the dumbass I am), accidently deleted the swatches of this lol I love this, so pretty!

Again, Meryl on my sisters nails, but this time topped with O Canada!. O Canada! is such a pretty polish. Its a shimmery base with red and iridescent glitters.

The base for this was Daphne(one of the polishes I got in my first Julep Maven package). On the pinky and ring finger is Melissa. Melissa is a sheer pearlescent polish that reflects a blue-ish color. On the middle and pointer fingers is Portia. Portia is sheer light blue base with iridescent glitter. I love how both of these polishes look over Daphne.

Last but not least, Sharon. Sharon is a dark red polish with a bit of shimmery goodness. I love this. You can never go wrong with a great red polish!

Anddddddd that is my lovely haul from Julep's Year End Sale :) woooooo

Pointy Nails...Why?

Last night I was at a family friends house celebrating New Years Eve. We were watching the Rockin New Year's Eve special with Fergie as the host in Hollywood. One of the guys pointed out how ridiculous her nails were. She was rockin some talons.

Now don't get me wrong, I love long nails as much as the next girl, but I still do not understand the whole Talon Nail trend. I know many of the nail girls I'm friends with rock the talons. Tons of celebs do to:
Rihanna

Adele

Lady Gaga

Beyonce

I know long, pointy nails were a big trend in 2012 but the year is over and I still don't get it! While these nails are pretty and you can do a lot to them, there is no possible way for these being practical. There are so many things you cannot do with these.
  1. Putting In Contacts - I have absolutely no problem putting things by my eyes, I do my makeup everyday so I have eyeliner pencils and what not near my eyes. But the thought of putting contacts in with pointy nails just makes me cringe!! I am such a klutz and I would end up stabbing myself in the eye and doing some serious damage.
  2. Washing The Dishes - Unless you wear gloves, washing the dishes always leads to the messing up of a mani. The water makes the nails soft and bendy and the polish inevitably chips due to the bending of the nails or hitting them on dishes. With pointy nails it would be difficult to keep the gloves on properly, and you risk the possibility of the nail snapping right off and tearing at the nail bed.
  3. Doing Laundry -  I am always doing laundry and I fear for my mani while doing so. I have short square nails, but they always catch on clothes or get ripped when I'm pulling clothes out from the bottom of the washing machine. I can only imagine how much worse it would be for the talons, it would be so easy for them to catch on fabric and rip really low. Nothing hurts worse than tearing a nail really low.
  4. Picking Your Nose - You would probably end up scratching your brain with the talons.
  5. Alone Time With Your Man - Do I really need to explain this one..? Do you think your man is gonna want you reaching for his junk when you have some scary claws? ...I think not.
  6. Job Interview - Will you really be able to do office work or waitressing or something with super long nails? Thats just an accident waiting to happen.
Those are just some of the things I came up with for the impracticality of pointy nails, some of it serious, some of it joking. I know some of you lovely ladies rock the claws and good job for not poking yourself in the eye!

All joking aside, I think I would try out the pointy nails trend maybe once, if I could ever get my nails to grow that long! But since I cannot, I will stick to my lil square beauties :)

Much love and Happy New Year!
